Nigeria’s U-23 national team will battle their Zambian counterparts in a crucial second leg final 2015 All Africa Games qualifier at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday (today).
The first leg ended 0-0 in Abuja. The Nigerian team arrived Lusaka on Friday and were received by officials of the Nigerian Embassy led by the Consular Officer, Shuaibu Ali.The delegation was immediately driven to their Golden Peacock Hotel, Lusaka, in hired buses organised by the Nigerian embassy, as there was no official of the Football Association of Zambia to receive them. The team had their first training session at 2.30pm Nigerian time same day.
Samson Siasia’s team received a huge blow ahead of the encounter when Flying Eagles captain, Musa Muhammed, left camp without informing officials, to pursue a contract in Europe.
But his U-20 teammates Taiwo Awoniyi, Mustapha Abdullahi and Bernard Bulbwa made the squad for the game. Enyimba midfielder Kingsley Sokari and Warri Wolves’ striker Oghenekaro Etebo also made the cut.
The Super Falcons had on Friday qualified for the 2015 AAG after an 8-0 rout of Mali in Abuja in the second leg of their final qualifier. The first leg ended 1-1.
Captain of the U-23 team, Erhun Obanor, said they were motivated by the performance of the Falcons, adding that they will go out for victory against the Zambians.
Obanor said they received the news of the Falcons’ triumph after their evening training on Friday. He stated that they are hoping to complete the double for the country by also winning a ticket today.
