Arsenal will switch their attention to Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani after hitting a brick wall in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema, according to reports that appear to originate from Spanish outlet  Fichajes.
The reports are now being spread across British media and linking back to various outlets- but the trail leads to the Spanish publication, through The Daily Express, The Daily Star and Metro.
It’s stated that Arsenal’s failure to sign Benzema, who looks set to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, has led Arsene Wenger to eye a move for long-term target Cavani; with the price said to be £35.5m.
However there are a number of concerns regarding the validity of the reports. Firstly, Fichajes is not known as a reliable Spanish outlet; which raises the first question marks.
The second point could be the most telling, as it’s stated today that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be allowed to leave the Parisian club- which will give Uruguayan ace Cavani his opportunity through the middle, a chance he’s been craving since his arrival from Napoli.
PSG are unlikely to sell both Ibrahimovic and Cavani in the same window unless a replacement is lined-up, which doesn’t seem likely at this stage.
