British boy, 4, drowns in swimming pool while holidaying with family in villa

The tragic youngster is believed to have fallen into the pool as he played with other kids. His parents were entertaining friends at the large property overlooking a golf course in the Costa del Resort of Mijas at the time. The unnamed boy was discovered floating in the water by a horrified teenage son of one of the guests.One of the parents at the gathering tried to revive him before paramedics arrived.

But the boy was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to save him failed.

The tragedy happened on Sunday evening just before 9 at a detached villa in a leafy residential street in hills – a short drive from La Cala de Mijas, on the coast between Marbella and Fuengirola.

The cul-de-sac overlooks a golf course which is popular with British expats and tourists.

An investigating judge on nvestigating the incident and an autopsy is due to take place in Malaga later today.
