Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has surprisingly left out the Chelsea duo of John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses as well as Watford attacker Odion Jude Ighalo from the Afcon 2017 qualifying match against Tanzania.
Out of the three big names ignored, Ighalo has featured in 106 minutes for Watford in this season’s two Barclays Premier League games against Everton and West Bromwich Albion, while Mikel and Moses have not had a look-in into the Chelsea team as the Blues’ early season slump continues.
No immediate reason was given for the omission of the trio from the roster as West Brom striker Brown Ideye was also deemed not good enough for the Tanzania trip.
Oliseh has opted to call up six other strikers in Ahmed Musa, Emem Eduok, Emmanuel Emenike, Anthony Ujah, Sylvester Igboun (FC UFA, Russia) and Moses Simon.
In the absence of Mikel, Joel Obi, Izunna Ernest Uzochukwu, Obiora Nwankwo, Lukman Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim got the coach’s nod in midfield.
The Super Eagles are billed to face Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations next month in Dar es Salaam.
